The HomeMarketeer Guide: Moving

Guide Home Page

Property Guide: | Prepare | Pricing | Advertising | Viewing | Offers | No Luck | The Sale | Moving | Settling In |

Moving is a big day. So prepare beforehand:

  • When you have a definite date for completion, its time to book your removal company.
  • Fill the cars up with petrol before the day (believe me it'll come in handy).
  • Check out where the nearest take aways to your new house are (just in case the cooker does not work).
  • On the day:

    • Pack an overnight bag for moving day - this will get you through your first night in your new home.
    • Remember to have everyday items like toilet rolls, light bulbs etc. on hand.
    • Take final meter readings for gas, electric and - where applicable - water.

    Mail - Changing your Address

It is a good idea to redirect your mail. Go to the Royal Mail web site for details.

Make a list of those you need to let know your change of address (it could be an idea to get some cheap cards printed):

A site that can really help you with this is I Am Moving - they can notify the people that need to know for you. A real timesaver!!!

    • Friends and family
    • Driving licence
    • Mobile phone bills
    • Banks
    • Utilities - electricity, water, phone, gas
    • TV licence
    • Credit cards and store cards
    • Pension companies
    • Employers

At HomeMarketeer, we love to hear your thoughts and ideas about home buying and selling. Have you had bad experiences? Funny ones? Did one particular company exceed your expectations, or perhaps the opposite?
