The Birmingham Canal Navigations are an sprawling network of many canals within the Birmingham area - over 180 miles of canals and 200 locks - leading Birmingham to compete with Venice on the number of canals. The canal system connects to the Grand Union Canal, the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, and the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal. There are many individual interconnected canals that make up the navigations including The Dudley No 1 and 2 Canal, Tame Valley Canal, New Main Line, Old Main Line, Walsall Canal, Wyrley and Essington Canal, Rushall Canal and Daw End Canal.
